Banana Chocolate Death Star Waffles

Difficulty1

Today’s the day. We’ve all been waiting for what seems like forever. Star Wars: Episode VII is finally in theaters! Admittedly, today I woke up on the dark side of the bed after very little sleep and the realization sinking in that I have to scale back on my geeky recipes. Luckily, I soon discovered that I could Awaken the Force and my day with a generous stack of Banana Chocolate Death Star Waffles. They’re quick, they’re easy, they’re a real crowd-pleaser, AND they’re made from scratch! Say what?

Just like that, I was back in celebration mode. New Star Wars, themed waffles, and my first blogging anniversary?  Suddenly I’m bursting with energy and enthusiasm! Or is that the banana slices and chocolate chips?

Ready? Let’s go!

Geeks and Gamers, grab your mats:

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ to 1 cup chocolate chips, to taste. I used dark chocolate chips because if it’s worth doing right it has to be dark chocolate.
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt (if using unsalted butter)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 – 2/3 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 banana, mashed

Garnish:

  • sliced bananas
  • maple syrup

And, of course, your handy Death Star Waffle Maker!

Don’t have a Death Star Waffle Maker? ThinkGeek can help you fix it!

NOTE: Looks like they’ve sold out due to holiday hype and won’t be getting any in until Feb. 2016, but you can still pre-order!

This is a short and simple recipe, but sometimes that’s okay. By the way, it makes exactly six healthy sized waffles. Woo, quantities!

Plug in your waffle maker and start the preheating process. Dump all of your dry ingredients into a large bowl:

I started with 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, but decided to up it to 3/4 cup later on.

Mix that all together. Mash up one banana with a fork and add the banana and wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.

IMAG1711
See the orangey yolk? I have farm-fresh eggs again!

Stir all ingredients together until just combined. It’s okay if it’s a bit lumpy– that’s actually a good thing!

IMAG1712
Don’t taste this. Ew.

Lightly spray your waffle maker with nonstick spray and spoon waffle batter stuff into cavity. You could also brush the waffle maker with vegetable oil and a pastry brush… whatever works, right? You may need to ease the mixture into the crevices with a spoon a little.

This was slightly too much.

Cook your waffles according to the instructions provided for your waffle maker.

IMAG1719
Hm… That’s about done. We like our waffles a little on the Chewy side. Oh yes, I said it!

Plate your first waffle. Lightly drizzle maple syrup over the waffle and top with sliced bananas. Cook your second waffle.

IMAG1715
That’s… almost a whole banana?

Top with a second waffle and drizzle with more syrup. Garnish with extra banana slices and chocolate chips. You’re done!

Surrender yourself to pure deliciousness.

  1. I need to purchase a waffle maker! Banana waffle sandwiches, how can you say no to that for breakfast?! Film is awesome by the way, saw it a couple of days ago. Very true to the originals, none of that prequel rubbish. People have already been out spoiler-ing though. I just don’t get the sad satisfaction they get from doing it. Hope you get to see it soon!
