Nightmare Before Christmas: Sally’s Blueberry Scones

Difficulty1What could be more iconic than scones and tea at a tea party? How about my recipe for Sally’s Blueberry Scones? These scones are delicious with bursts of intense blueberry flavor and a sweet-tart lemon glaze that just won’t quit. The best part? Break one of these scones apart and take a look at that drop-dead gorgeous blue crumb. It’s irresistible. I confess, I ate one scone before I even started on the stitching, burning my tongue on the hot blueberry juices in the process. I had two more scones this morning.

Number of regrets: 0

This is your new go-to scone recipe. End of discussion. Hell, I’m making a second batch and destroying my kitchen later this afternoon. They’re seriously the easiest thing in the world and require zero decorating skill. Ready? Let’s go.

Minions Trifle is not to be trifled with.

Difficulty1Yet again I’m late joining the Fandom Bandwagon. So Minions are a thing, and they are an awesome thing. So much so that when I was contacted by a former art teacher asking me to bring a snack to her retirement party this was the first idea that came to mind (it’s kind of an inside joke). This Minions Trifle recipe is incredibly fast, easy, flavorful, and so fluffy. And of course there are bananas in it, which just makes it even more awesome. Also, trifles are just plain fun to make.

Hey, she did say I could make anything…

This is a really basic trifle recipe. That said, feel free to add whatever you feel is appropriate… provided that you have enough room in your trifle dish. Want to add a simple syrup/banana liqueur drizzle over the cake cubes? Maybe a layer of banana pudding? Go for it. Maybe a layer of blueberry pie filling and lemon zest before your whipped cream layer? Knock yourself out. Make what tastes good to you; your taste buds matter the most! Ready? Let’s go.

Captain America Fruit Pizza

Difficulty1

Ah, Avengers. Yes, I’m aware I’m one week late into the hype. I just had my heart set on making that meatloaf, y’know? Also, I was seeing Avengers on my everything feed like crazy, particularly pizza versions of Captain America’s shield. Considering that my family owns a pizzeria that would have been all too easy. Like, total cop out easy. Have you ever had a fruit pizza before. I’m not talking about pineapple on your everyday, run-of-the-mill Hawaiian pizza. I’m talking about on a full on dessert style fruit pizza. No? Well, you’ve been missing out.

Until today. Today I will change your life.

This is how you’ll get your kids to eat fruit. It’s fast, easy to put together, and once you get started you’ll realize that the possibilities are endless. Use kiwi and blueberries for the Hulk. Strawberries and mango or peach for Iron Man. You see where I’m going with this. As usual, I went all out and made a 16″ pizza. With this suggestion, you could easily make multiple smaller pizzas with different variations. A trio of 10″ fruit pies? I’m just saying…

Ready? Let’s go.

Sonic the Hedgehog Cheesecakes

Difficulty2

Admittedly, this is one of those “Because I Can” things. But really, who doesn’t love cheesecake? Or Sonic, for that matter? Sonic the Hedgehog was one of my all time favorite video games growing up. By now, you know that means I also suck at it. However, sources indicate that it’s really bloody entertaining to watch me play as it involves a lot of inventive cursing, squealing, ragequitting on the water levels… you get the idea. Heck, I even have Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on my smartphone. It’s that good.

That said, before you get started with this one… pop a bottle of your favorite dessert wine in the fridge to chill. This recipe is that rich, that decadent, that velvety… MMMmmmmmm. Legitimately, I would pay money for this at a restaurant and be completely satisfied. I made these with fruit and pie fillings but you can also do a plain style cheesecake and be completely happy. I’m not one to judge. In fact, I’m doing that later today after the springform pans are washed. Note that these are going to take a little more time as it’s not a ‘chill and serve’ recipe, but these are so worth the extra effort. Ready? Let’s go!
