Tetris Rice Krispie Treats

Tetris for me has always been one of those ‘firsts’. Once upon a time, Little Leisel was fortunate enough to be able to read and play video games in the back seat of dad’s car on super long car trips. Nowadays, I’m either always bloody driving, or I get immensely ill after playing a level or reading half of the comics section of the newspaper– if I’m lucky. Anyway, back to Story Time: I never actually had a Game Boy handheld growing up. My first ‘brand name’ handheld gaming system was a 3DS… which I got this year. When I was a Bright Young Thing, I received a handheld Tetris video game player. It took a crap-ton of carefully rationed batteries and was immensely fun for all those long hours in the car going to and from family reunions in northern Indiana. You know, I have no idea what ever happened to that thing…

You’ll remember I actually did plan these when I wrote last week’s post. But I did not plan for it to be like this. Dad called me a couple of days ago to tell me our cousin Janet just passed away. Janet was the official ‘head’ of the family reunion – reserving the meeting place, sending out official invitation letters to relatives all over the country (most of which are actually in Hoosier country, but there are a few stragglers), organizing Bingo and the White Elephant auction… as you can tell, it’s quite a job! As such, I think it’s fitting to dedicate this post to Janet. Rest in peace.

Disclaimer: I know all this seems like A LOT. I promise this recipe will take you from raw ingredients to cooling stage in about 10 minutes.

Anyway. I made Tetris Rice Krispie Treats, flavored with gelatin. That’s right, they’re flavored! Because at Skill Up Skillet we either go ALL THE WAY or write a Filler Post of Facepalm. Ready? Let’s go.

Doctor Who Adipose Marshmallows

Doctor Who has been one of my absolute favorite shows for a while. I actually have several DW dishes planned at this time but as this week and next week are rather busy weeks for me, we’ll have to start with something quick and easy – Adipose Marshmallows. Adipose are little alien creatures literally created from human fat with the help of a dodgy diet pill. Maybe that’s why I do so poorly with diets? Ha.

These little guys were very fun to put together and I couldn’t help but to give each of them a little bit of personality in their gestures and expressions. Feel free to play around with the arrangement of the mini marshmallow ‘limbs’ to suit your fancy. Food’s food, but food is fun! Hearthstone Rock Candy Geodes – So That’s Where the Mana Gems come from!

Right. So, I’m giving this a 3 Skillet difficulty due to my personal experience, but if you’re already familiar with making fondant or are buying it premade, it’s more of a 2 Skillet difficulty.

Did you know Blizzard’s Hearthstone card game is celebrating its first anniversary? Hmmm? My boyfriend got me into all things Blizzard with a World of Warcraft subscription around the middle of Wrath of the Lich King and I loved it from the very beginning. My main is a Night Elf Hunter (95, and I’m very upset it’s not 100) on the Velen server. But that’s a story for another day. I usually play a few games of Hearthstone daily, at least.  It’s by far one of my current favorite games. I typically favor a Beast Mastery style Hunter deck, but my Demonology style Warlock deck has been really fun lately as well. And if Neo’s playing his evil Warrior deck – forget about it, I’m spectating those games (spoiler: God so help you if you don’t kill him in the first 5 turns).

This recipe is loosely based on someone I follow on YouTube – How To Cook That by Ann Reardon (https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/) . You should check her stuff out sometime; she’s absolutely brilliant. Look up Rock Candy Geode. Wow! This is my take on her fondant shelled geode. This is also my first time making and tasting fondant so it’s exceptionally exciting. Ready? Let’s go.

I’m just going to come right out and say it… the internet lies and this recipe proved that Murphy’s Law is real. Disclaimer aside, this recipe combines my two favorite dessert treats into one happy little lump: Oreo cookies and marshmallows. Probably you’ve seen the recipe for “coal” bars circulating on Facebook… and based on the image and details, it probably originated from Pinterest.
